Los Angeles City Councilmember-elect Ysabel Jurado has postponed her swearing-in ceremony to focus on assisting victims of the LA wildfires.
The Filipino American lawyer, who was sworn into office last month to represent District 14, prioritized leading relief efforts as Los Angeles County continues to deal with the impact of the fires that killed at least 27 people and destroyed thousands of homes.
“We will post here once we have a new date (for the ceremony). In the meantime, please stay informed, remain alert and take care of yourselves, Jurado wrote in an Instagram post.”

Jurado’s swearing-in ceremony was originally scheduled for Jan. 11.
Firefighters have been making more steady progress in battling the Eaton and Palisades fires, but communities remain on high alert as they brace for another dangerous wind event on Monday.

She advised the residents to wear a mask to protect themselves from smoke pollution and offered preparedness tips.

“So much appreciation for our first responders who risk it all to keep us safe. Showing @losangelesfiredepartment Station 42 some love by way of freshly made pizzas,” she wrote.
“Our city continues to show up for each other in a big way.”
LA County will be under a red flag warning for extreme LA fire danger from Monday morning through Tuesday night.
Forecasters say a “moderate to strong” Santa Ana wind event is expected, with isolated gusts of 80 to 100 mph expected in most wind-prone mountain locations, such as the San Gabriel, western Santa Monica and Santa Susana Mountains, according to the National Weather Service.
