MANILA, Philippines — Southern Leyte Gov. Damian Mercado said five people were injured while 191 houses were damaged following the 5.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked San Francisco town on Thursday morning.

Mercado on Friday said the provincial government would immediately extend aid to people distressed by the quake.

“Meron talagang mga damage dito. May house damage. 191 damaged [houses], merong injured – five. Merong bahay na nasunog, isa. Merong damaged infrastructure — school, barangay hall, saka yung one bridge,” the governor said over Radyo 630.

(There’s really damage here. There’s house damage. 191 damaged houses, there are five people injured. One house was burned. There’s damage to infrastructure including a school, a barangay hall, and one bridge.)

In a statement on Friday, the DOTr said it had inked a transaction advisory service agreement with the World Bank Group unit to lay out the airport project’s terms of reference (TOR).

A representative from the company told the Inquirer that prospective areas include Iloilo, Davao, Cavite, Bulacan, and Metro Manila.

Citing a report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Mercado said no one is staying at evacuation centers at present.

The 5.8-magnitude earthquake that struck waters off San Francisco, Southern Leyte, at 7:39 a.m. on January 23 caused damage to roads and prompted local government units to suspend classes.

The temblor’s epicenter was located six kilometers (km) east of San Francisco municipality. It had a depth of 14 km.
